More new jewellery – and a new online store!
Sorry for the lack of communication: I’ve been pretty busy making some new pieces over the last couple of weeks. Take a look:
The drops in the earrings I made ages ago from PMC (precious metal clay). They have little cubic zirconia gems set into them – CZs are lab-created stones that can be fired in place so are great for use in cast or fired pieces.
The second piece is a simple hammered sterling silver horseshoe shape, drilled and wire-wrapped on to a simple sterling silver chain. I saw someone wearing a gold version of this and loved it so much I thought I’d give it a go in silver. I think I might have to make another one of these for me – I love it!
The last two pieces incorporate stones bought from the lovely guy, Michael Hendrix, of Minarex who finds and cuts gorgeous high quality stones from around the world. The triangle pendant is a piece of chrysocolla in quartz, set in a sterling silver bezel and the ring is a gorgeous edible-looking chunk of citron magnesite from Australia, again, set in sterling silver. Some of these pieces are not yet in my online stores, so please contact me if you’re interested in buying one of them.
Talking of online stores, I’m now registered on ecrater.com and my direct link is emilytyriecreations.ecrater.com. Oh, and the ‘add to bag’ feature is still not available on icraft.ca, but I’ll let you know as soon as it is!
Great excuse!
So I spent most of Friday and Saturday frantically making jewellery so I had stuff to show at the Santa Monica Art & Antique Fair on Sunday. My friend – Kenjo, also on Etsy – and I tried out the show for the first time this month and had a great time! The other stallholders and customers were all super friendly and the weather was gorgeous! It’s a pretty early start – 6.30 set-up for 8am opening – but definitely worth doing. Our jewellery had a great reception from people and we sold quite a lot of pieces.
Here are a few of the pieces that I made for the show:
So now I have a great excuse to go and buy loads more materials! I need to stock up my workbench – oh what a chore!
ETC jewellery now available on iCraft.ca
So there’s this great new website called icraft.ca – they’ve just started up (the ‘shopping cart’ isn’t even active yet) but they already have quite a few vendors (or ‘creators’ as they call us). It’s really nicely laid out and easy to navigate and I’ve been in touch with the ‘live help’ and they are very helpful and friendly! Anyway, I’ve uploaded a few pieces on to the site, so please go ahead and take a look!
I have a new ring on there, which I haven’t put on Etsy. Here it is:
Finally… I have a blog!
Okay, so it’s been a while coming, but I’ve finally got around to having a blog, dedicated to my jewellery!
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Emily Tyrie, a British jewellery designer and I’ve just turned 32 (argh!). I started making jewellery about 2 1/2 years ago. I took a couple of beading classes and bought a load of cheap supplies and just practised for ages! My poor family members all got horrible jewellery for Christmas and birthdays (sorry about that!) until I felt confident enough to invest a bit of money in quality supplies and tools.
Since then I’ve been taking a fantastic jewellery fabrication course at Venice Adult School (Venice, CA) under the inspiring guidance of Anthony Chavez. He truly is a wonderful, patient teacher and this course must be the best value course in the entire western world!
So I now combine my beading and wire-wrapping techniques with my silver-smithing abilities and produce an eclectic range of easy-to-wear, everyday jewellery.
Please have a look at my website – emilytyrie.com – to see my work.
Welcome to EmilyTyrieCreations and I hope to be updating you regularly on what’s going on in my life and the big creative world of jewellery!
Stocking up!
I’ve just braved downtown Los Angeles to stock up on some supplies. I love that place! I got a new saw (oooh, how exciting!) and some lovely delicate silver chain and some more gold chain – so keep an eye out for it in my store pretty soon!
I also had to make a tough decision about packaging. I’m trying to be really environmentally friendly these days (New Year’s resolution), but at the same time I don’t want to come across as cheap or amateur when I’m wrapping purchases for a customer. So I initially thought it would be nice to put purchases in a little gift bag, so the customer has something to swing when they walk away! But I’ve decided to forgo these for the sake of the environment and my customers will be encouraged to use their own recyclable bag instead! I’m still going to wrap the items in a little piece of tissue paper and put them in an organza bag, but the organza bag can be re-gifted, so I don’t feel too bad about that.
Oh, and while I was just writing this, the silver that I ordered from David H Fell just arrived by UPS. I ordered some great wire and sheet metal for some exciting new projects I have in mind. Bring it on!!
